The collaboration will combine engineering and construction expertise with indigenous mobility technology to assess commercially viable transport infrastructure projects across India.

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has entered into a pact with an IIT Madras-incubated deep-tech mobility start-up TuTr Hyperloop to jointly explore next-generation mobility technologies and related infrastructure opportunities in India, a statement said on Wednesday.

The partnership combines L&T’s engineering, procurement, and construction expertise with TuTr Hyperloop’s capabilities in indigenous electromagnetic propulsion and advanced mobility systems, L&T said in the statement.

Partnership to explore advanced mobility technologies

L&T said that the two organisations will assess opportunities across a range of infrastructure and technology domains, including linear induction motor-based propulsion systems, vacuum tube infrastructure, pressure management systems, civil and structural works and electrical infrastructure.

The partnership envisages a complementary division of responsibilities spanning technology development, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, installation and testing, as required for individual projects.

The two organisations will also engage with prospective customers to assess technical feasibility, commercial viability and implementation requirements, the statement said.

Focus on freight, logistics and industrial transportation

By bringing together indigenous deep-tech innovation and large-scale infrastructure execution capabilities, the collaboration seeks to support the development of future-ready transportation systems in India. It will also explore opportunities across freight and logistics, port connectivity, industrial transportation and other emerging mobility applications.

Larsen & Toubro is a USD 32 billion Indian multinational engaged in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects, hi-tech manufacturing, products and services, operating across diverse domains and multiple geographies.

TuTr Hyperloop Private Limited is an IIT Madras-incubated deep-tech mobility startup focused on developing next-generation electromagnetic transportation technologies indigenously.
